Dry Drayton, Cambridgeshire

A modern scheme comprising 10 new family homes – All sold

The Opportunity

Formerly the orchard area to the rear garden to 65 Pettitts Lane, this pretty 0.8 acre parcel of land set just outside the green belt provided the opportunity to design a modern scheme comprising 10 new family homes, situated in a small and attractive village about 3 miles west of the Cambridge city boundary with easy access to the city centre.

The Vision

To design and build a sustainable and modern cluster of 10 homes accessed via Pettitts Close. A joint venture with reputed builders Dean and Dean brought the vision of city styling and architecture to the countryside proving modernist features are not only to be found in urban developments.

To produce a scheme which created individual character in a green and open setting. To retain and maintain prominent existing landscape features, particularly the existing trees and hedgerows, and to utilise a material palette of highly sustainable and natural materials

Thoughtfully designed, each property reflected the changing world and featured ground floor offices for a convenient work from home environment.

Roof windows to the lower roof level provides a nice light environment within the reception rooms and sedum roofs enhance the site biodiversity.

Progress – All Sold

Outline planning previously granted in 2015 for the construction of 6 new dwellings prior to us purchasing the land. These were much larger properties and not what the market was demanding at that time.

December 20017 – full Planning application lodged for 10 smaller properties which was then approved

January 2020 – construction was due to start on site but was delayed due to COVID-19 so the actual start was May 2020

June 2021 the show house was completed and open for viewings

Final sale completed July 2023 – well beyond anticipated final sales date due to market conditions.

‘Swifts Close’ – The chosen name for this new cul-de-sac is in honour of the regular summer visiting Swifts that return annually to this area

‘Swifts Close’ – provides Dry Drayton with a refreshing new look and feel
